Posted by admin on Jul 31, 2008 under Tips Gardening

There are literally thousands upon thousands of different vegetable gardening tips and home gardening tips out there that you can learn about and use to your advantage, but if you are just getting started in gardening and want to know what the absolute most important vegetable gardening tips are that you should know, here they are.

Garden Site

One of the most important vegetable gardening tips, easily, involves deciding where to make your garden. Choosing a garden site is going to have a significant effect on whether your plants are going to do well or poorly. An area exposed to full or near-full sunlight with deep, well-drained, fertile soil is ideal.

You should never make a garden site near a water outlet and you need to make sure that the area you choose is free of competition from existing shrubs or trees.

Planting

Another of the first vegetable gardening tips you should learn involves the actual planting of the plants. You should always avoid transplanting too deep or too shallow because this often results in developed roots aborting. Some crops are easily transplanted bare-root while others will need to be transplanted in containers.

Fertilizer

Proper fertilizer is essential for any successful vegetable garden. The next tip here is to use organic fertilizer. This is for a few reasons, but more than anything because organic fertilizers are much safer to use and less damaging to the plants. They are also much better for the environment, and every little thing that you can do to save the environment these days is crucial.

Design

The design of your garden is what the next of the most important vegetable gardening tips revolves around. You want to design your garden so that the crop rotation is practiced, and this is imperative because rotation primarily helps by preventing diseases from living over from one season to another. Avoid growing the same vegetable in the same location more often than once every three years.

Gardening is a very fun and enjoyable activity, and when you have fresh vegetables produced from your very own garden, you are going to feel so proud. Just make sure that you take all the different gardening tips and tricks into serious consideration and really use them to your advantage so that you can have the best overall success with your gardening and come out of it all with fresh, nutritious, delicious vegetables.

Since food is becoming so expensive, will more Americans start vegetable gardening and canning their own food?

It's definitely one way to save money on food!

Being a fellow native to my state… you probably see as much of it as I do down here :) Out at Two Rivers Park they actually have public land staked out for gardens… people have them planted everywhere! My family has always had a garden growing up… but they have expanded it now that both of my parents have retired.. instead of a little thing.. we have 3 massive gardens.

Can't beat the food picked there.. and yes, I do think we'll see more and more of this.

What is the best way to get rid of grass and weeds for flower and vegetable gardening?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2008 under Vegetable Gardening

I know this may take a lot of work, but I have never just had to eradicate both for a large scale multiple gardens.

Round up does the trick and you can plant as soon as the weeds, etc are dead. It doesn't affect the soil, so you can feel safe in using it. Once it is clear, prepare the soil correctly, not hurrying the process. You then will be rewarded with lovely flowers and vegetables.
We just re- landscaped our back yard, turning it over, and even sifting the dirt to get rid of all stones, etc. We then built 3 enclosed beds of soil, and have planted tomatoes. Herbs go in tomorrow and soon lettuce. We already have beans growing, and plan to have the entire back yard growing things to eat, or in between the raised beds, lovely flowers.

We simply got tired of weeds, etc. and will have less work to do. We tried the black plastic but got impatient and wanted to start long before the grass would have been dead.

When I say we, I mean my husband. He immigrated from Holland this year to live in the house I own, and so he brought all of his lovely skills from Holland. They sure know how to grow flowers and veggies over there.

Good luck. It is all worth it. No shortcuts.

Where is the best place to plant trees and have a garden?

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2008 under Trees Gardening

I want to plant apple trees, mangos, pears, oranges, pineapples, watermelons, jack fruit, cantelopse, honey dew, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, thyme, letuce, sweet peppers and carrots. What is the best place abd best type of weather to plant trees and gardens ?

Hi:
You have a wide range of plant specimens and growing all these different trees and vegetables will depend on your geographic location and climate zones. The vegetables you mentioned can grow in just about any climate zone. If your ground freezes during the winter months, you shouldn't put seeds in the ground or plants until the ground temperature warms up and the threat of frost is gone. There are some vegetables that can be started sooner. I will link you to a page in the simple solutions section of my website. It has some information on ground temperatures and when to plant some varieties. Vegetables like sun and most can take a fertililizer. There is also a page on properly planting a tree.
The main key to a healthy garden is properly preparing your soil. I will link you to the plan – prep – plant page as this will give you some tips and techniques of properly doing a garden or landscape area.

As far as the trees you mentioned, apple trees grow in many diffrerent climate zones. Mango, Pineapple, Orange trees are suited more for a warmer climate. Make sure you know your climate zone before considering planting any trees. Depending on the tree specimen and its maturity both in height and width will determind the space needed for each one. The trees you mention also like sun.

Your vegetable garden should have enough space to allow each plant to sprawl out and mature properly.

Feel free to contact me at my website and I will be happy to help you out with these vegetables and trees. Good luck to you and I hope this little bit of information has given you some ideas. Have a great day!
